Fake Chocolate Donuts with Spirulina

Healthy, Gluten-Free Dessert

This special donut made with spirulina powder not only impresses with its spectacular green color, but also with its ingredients rich in protein and antioxidants. It's the perfect alternative to traditional sweets, and it's made with gluten-free flour and natural sweeteners. An ideal choice for breakfast with coffee or as a healthy dessert.

Fake chocolate donut with spirulina

Ingredients (for approx. 4 servings)

200 g gluten-free flour (e.g. almond flour, coconut flour)
35 g carob powder
1 teaspoon spirulina powder
2 tablespoons date powder
2 tablespoons brown sugar or coconut sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 pinch salt
300 ml plant milk (e.g. oat milk, almond milk)
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

For the glaze

2 teaspoons spirulina powder (for a nice green color)
2 tablespoons maple syrup/agave syrup
2-3 tablespoons plant milk (e.g. oat milk or almond milk)
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice (optional, for a more refreshing taste)
Top the donut with chopped pistachios, cashews, or any other nuts of your choice seeds

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 180°C and mix the dry ingredients together. Mix the wet ingredients in a separate bowl and add to the dry mixture. Spoon the mixture into the donut tin and bake for 15-20 minutes. Cool, then make the glaze: mix the syrup with the spirulina and plant-based milk to make a thick, spreadable consistency. Brush the tops of the donuts with it and sprinkle with chopped seeds.
