Healthy, Protein-Rich Snacks
Most traditional store-bought chips and salty snacks are ultra-processed foods that often contain additives, flavor enhancers, and unnecessary fat. The recipe below is a great healthy chip alternative that is additive-free, quick to make, and high in plant-based protein. An ideal choice for a conscious diet, for athletes or those following a reform diet.
Protein tortilla chips
Ingredients (1 medium baking tray serving)
- 60 g pea protein powder (plain)
- 25 g psyllum seed husk
- 45 g almond flour
- 1.5 teaspoons olive oil
- 1.5 teaspoons salt
- Seasonings to taste (e.g. smoked paprika) paprika, garlic powder, chili, cumin)
- approx. 180 ml lukewarm water
Preparation
After thoroughly mixing the dry ingredients, gradually add the olive oil and water to make a homogeneous mass. In order for the psyllium husk to hydrate, the dough needs to rest for 5–10 minutes. After that, the mass should be stretched very thinly (approx. 3–4 mm) between two sheets of baking paper, then cut into triangles and placed on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
The protein tortilla chips are baked at 160 °C on the middle rack of the oven for 15–20 minutes until crispy, turning halfway through. Once they are golden brown, they can be removed from the oven immediately.

These white, homemade tortilla chips are great with guacamole, yogurt dips or vegetable creams, making them the perfect choice for a healthy snack.
