Details

Chia seeds contain almost 5 times more calcium than milk and 3 times more iron than spinach. Chia seeds are an ancient natural food and a leading superfood to this day. South American chia is a herb, also known as chia sage, belonging to the mint family. Chia seeds have traditionally been a staple of local cuisine, as flour, cereal and mixed into drinks. Chia seeds are rich in protein and vitamins, and contain large amounts of omega-6 and 3 fatty acids. Chia seeds have a rich nutritional profile with about 20% protein and more omega-3 fatty acids than any other plant, including flaxseed. Chia seeds are carefully extracted from salvia hispanica and the highest quality ones are selected. They are cleaned in natural water and packaged in their raw state.

The growth period of chia lasts for 5 months, during which the seeds with full nutritional content develop. They are harvested by machine, then the seeds are carefully removed from the stem and cleaned. Chia seeds have been part of the local diet for centuries and were an important food item for the Aztecs. It is still widely used in southern Mexico and Guatemala.
